Resume or CV — which one do you need?

In the US and Canada, a resume is a one- to two-page targeted summary, while a CV is a longer academic document listing publications and research. In India, the UK, Ireland, Australia and most of Europe, 'CV' simply means the everyday job-application document.

ResumeTop covers both uses: the same editor produces a tight one-page resume or a longer multi-page CV, and the PDF export paginates cleanly onto A4 either way.

What a professional CV should contain

Keep the order predictable so a reader can scan it in thirty seconds.

• Name, role headline and contact details, including a LinkedIn URL
• A four-line professional summary written for the role you want next
• Work experience in reverse-chronological order with measurable results
• Education, with the academic table format where local employers expect it
• Skills, certifications, languages and projects

CV formats by country

A UK or Irish CV is usually two pages, no photo and no date of birth. Indian CVs often include personal details and a signed declaration — the Classic Formal template covers that convention. In much of continental Europe a photo is normal, which suits Modern Sidebar. US applications should stay photo-free and one page for most candidates.
